Spring On to a Springless
Trampoline
A springless trampoline is exactly what sounds like -- a
trampoline without springs. Instead of holding the mat on a
trampoline with springs, a springless trampoline has sturdy
elastic bands.
This has many advantages to the consumer, the most important
being that one cannot get scraped or pinched by metal coils
should they slip while on the trampoline. Another benefit is
that the elastic will not rust when left out in the elements,
unlike what happens to springs in the rain.
Why Go for a Springless Trampoline?
There are many advantages to getting a springless trampoline,
including greater ease of mat replacement, and that the
trampoline will not rust or become over-stretched despite
frequent use. The elastic bands are usually stronger than metal
springs, because there are more of them to support the mat, and
they will not become unsprung like metal coils can.
How Much Does a Springless Trampoline Cost?
There is very little in difference in cost between a springless
trampoline and a regular trampoline, although if you are having
your trampoline shipped, the springless version can weigh a lot
less and thus will be more economical to order online. The
framing is slightly different, which meant one couldn’t easily
just replace the mat to achieve a springless trampoline.
However, converters are available, and most accessories are
interchangeable, especially if they are the same brand and
manufacturer. Other than that, replacement parts are about the
same price.
Is a Springless Trampoline Strong?
The simple answer is yes. Made of high-grade elastic, they can
provide even more bounce without the bounce back of metal
springs. They are less likely to break, and they definitely do
not rust. When left out in the elements, the elastic is
protected from its natural enemy, the sun, by a wide cushioned
band, and therefore, may only wear out in a few years time with
heavy use. Unlike metal, which will get wet or damp and rust,
the elastic bands are weather resistant when shielded from the
sun.
If you buy a top-notch springless trampoline, it will be sewn
together nice and strong -- its superior quality can be seen in
double stitching and extra thick reinforcement. Unlike springs,
springless trampolines do not have metal grommets that can tear
away from the mat or squeak like metal against metal springs,
so with proper care they can even last longer than those with
springs.
